How We Operate

We are a registered charity, governed by a board of trustees and entirely run and operated by volunteers. The principal role of the Malton and Norton Heritage Centre is the display and management of the Woodhams Stone Collection. At present we have a building which we hope to convert into a store and potentially a small museum space. We also arrange 'pop-up' exhibitions at local venues. We have no public funding and currently make no charge for admission; we depend wholly on donations and grants. Our main effort goes into supporting local learning about the social and local history of Malton and Norton. What was it like to live and work here? We also provide heritage trails around the two towns. Many business and family histories are also enriched by the sort of detail that we can provide.

Our Trustees

The Woodhams Stone Collection is governed by a Board of Trustees. You can see the names of the current trustees on the Trustees page of the Charity Commissioners website

Our Charitable Objects

Our Charitable Objects are: 'The advancement of education of the public in particular but not exclusively by the establishment of a museum housing the Woodhams Stone Collection for the benefit of the inhabitants of Malton and Norton Yorkshire and the general public.'

Our Policies and Procedures

We are only a small operation but we have policies and procedures to help everyone involved with the Malton and Norton Heritage Centre to consistently do the right things, helping our audiences access and engage with collections, and protect them for future generations.

In this respect will commence in 2024 working towards compliance with the Accreditation Scheme run by Arts Council England who encourage all museums and galleries to meet an agreed standard in:

  • how they’re run
  • how they manage their collections
  • how they engage with their users

Please Donate

The Woodhams Stone Collection is entirely run by volunteers and is housed in the Malton & Norton Heritage Centre. A donation however small would help towards our running costs and the purchase of archive quality materials required to store and preserve the Collection for future generations. If you should decide to donate via the PayPal button neither you nor Woodhams Stone Collection will be charged a fee for this donation.

At the end of the transaction you will be asked if you wish the payment to be made as part of the GiftAid scheme. If you are a UK taxpayer and able to do this it means that Woodhams Stone Collection can benefit by an additional 25% of your donation.

Malton & Norton Memories

This group is for those who are interested in life as it used to be in the twin towns of Malton and Norton. It is chiefly a showcase for photos and items from the Woodhams-Stone Collection but you are welcome to post any comments, memories or photos you may have to share.
